Jumping Into Fall
After careful consideration, I think I am calling this my favourite picture from Summer 2006. I like the action, I like the color - admittedly, I don't like the parking lot - and I like that when I look at the picture I can feel the sun and water.

Note: I've plenty of pictures of other people that are much better than those of me, however I do not have clearance to post such pictures. Perhaps they do not trust me.)
Yesterday, I watched the Season 4 premiere of Nip/Tuck. I am new to the show. I read alot of buzz about it last year on PopCandy, others' blogs, and print media. Because the buzz was so positive, for Christmas I gave my mom the seasons 1 and 2 on dvd - even though I hadn't seen a single episode of the show. I gave them to vt as well. And I learned a very valuable lesson: do not gift a tv series until you have seen at least three episodes of the show. The gifts were disatrous in part, but a success in part. You see, my mom was not impressed with the show and she promptly returned Season 1 (opened) and Season 2 (unopened) to me. So the gift gave back! (Always a winner in my book.) But when I watched the first couple of episodes of the first season, I was mortified that I had given it to my mom. Seriously, I know the show is on F/X and all so there isn't any nudity and the language isn't that bad, but day-um, when did non-HBO/Showtime/Playboy channel get so nasty. Nasty good, but still a bit uncomfortable. And vt also recently confessed to not liking the show. Not. At. All. So I was a poor gift giver Christmas 2005.
So anyway, I am 6 episodes into the first season, 1 episode into the fourth season, and some crazy action evidently happened in between. Some people like to watch television shows linearly, but I don't mind going back and forth. The show is more that plot to me, I like the scenery, the music, the dialogue. Each episode can stand on its own as far as I'm concerned. I started all the HBO series in the middle of their runs and had to go back and watch the first couple seasons.
And now I am boring myself with this post.
Can anyone teach me how to (a) make a pattern, and (b) sew? VT started me watching Project Runway when we were in Laguna Beach in July and I've watched every episode since. I think I am ready to create an "international jet setter" outfit for myself. But I need to get some "mad skills" first. And then I am trying out for the show because I am in love with Heidi and her "Hello!" at the beginning of each episode.
I fear I am watching too much television. (Two episodes of Footballers' Wives yesterday as well. The show is trashy good.) I guess it's my way of jumping into Fall.

Cool pool picture.
I've seen the last 3 or so episodes of project runway also. I think I got into it during one of the project runway marathons that have been running on Bravo, well, daily it seems.
WARNING: Do not read the next sentence if you have not watched this past Wednesday's episode. I hate it that Jeffrey keeps winning. A cotton couture dress? It all seemed so wrong. And does everything Uli makes have rope for sleeves?
I can totally see Justin creating an outfit (or entire clothing line) for himself. Patterns? Who needs them. The guys on there were copying their own pants and cutting out similar shapes. You could do it. Sewing? That may be another story.
Sorry there were no comments on the las vegas post. I tried 3 times and couldn't post a comment, I think blogger hated us all that day.
At least vt got a Christmas present from you.
Actually, I received a special delivery of Desperate Housewives for Christmas. Nip/Tuck was for my birthday.
Deanna: I loved when Vincent used his own pants to create a pair for himself. But I don't understand these men that say, "I've never done a man's outfit in my life!" If you have the vision, talent, and ability, why wouldn't you make your own clothes? Do you remember when we were in Maui and I took a t-shirt and said, "I'm going to 'Project Runway' this?", and then cut it up? I'd never seen the show before that, but had an idea of what it was about. Glad we have a show in common. Finally, fully agree about that cotton dress of Jeffrey's. I thought Kayne's was great.
HC: vt gave me this for Christmas: http://www.beautyhabit.com/product1252.html only it came in a leather case. So you can see why I feel bad about striking out with her gift. I still use the PS2 you gave me on a near daily basis. And you can borrow the Nip/Tuck dvd's as soon as I watch them - I think you will love the show.
VT: Again, sorry about the bad gift.
That gift is lovely, vt. My birthday is April 10th.
I finally read the comments because I watched PR with SLCUP last night. They were all awfully hard on Kayne's dress, while everyone I know really liked and it thinks it's the best thing he's done on the show (with the possible exception of goth Marilyn Monroe).
If you don't listen to Tim Gunn's podcasts about the show, you really must. It really adds to the experience. Just search "Tim Gunn" under podcasts on iTunes. This week's 'cast included an anecdote about the production going to all this trouble to make sure Vincent got a vegetarian or vegan meal at the Paris restaurant, because V. always made a big deal (as I'm sure you can imagine) about his diet being akin to his religion. Then, while out, V. decided to order off the menu. Lamb. His response to Tim's bafflement was, "When in Rome..."
My two cents: The season finale of last season's Nip/Tuck (Sorry for the vagueness but I don't know if it's season one or 42) could be the best season finale of any tv show period. Enjoy that one. Beware though: I've been told my taste in EVERYTHING is bad.
