It's Only $20, So . . .

Alright, confession time. I bought some concert tickets. For this weekend. To see a band called New Kids on the Block. JUDGE ME.

I remember NKOTB mania. I also remember not being a part of it. I remember when Right Stuff came out. I remember seeing the video on some late night Friday video show (I didn't have MTV). I skipped and went on.

I remember when Hangin' Tough came out. It was the summer of '88, I believe. And we listened to that song while we played card games at "Swim Conference" - that super competitive end of summer swimming competition between swim teams from various country clubs held at Fort Douglas Country Club.

I didn't own any New Kids albums. I didn't own any New Kids cassette singles. I didn't own any NKOTB merchandise. And most importantly, I didn't consider myself a fan of their music. I was probably still in a Phil Collins No Jacket Required phase. Or Gordon Lightfoot. I was left of center. Or maybe right. And up until, say, a couple months ago, I only had one NKOTB song on my iPod: Step by Step. (That was likely due to the fact that a couple years ago I tried to impress a girl with the breadth of the music selection on my iPod. I asked her to pick any song in the world and told her that I would probably have it. I think she picked Right Stuff and I didn't have it. So I went home and downloaded Step by Step because I somehow believed that to be the superior song.)

But this summer, NKOTB's reunion single Summertime, really, really spoke to me. And then I heard and read several reviews of their reuion concert from very reputable sources, so I got interested. Then a couple weeks ago, I got a promotional e-mail offering $20 tickets to the concert, and at that point I figured, "Why would I miss this?" So I bought tickets.

And now, I'm really looking forward to it. I am definitely, without question taking ear plugs. Maybe a flask, as a a just in case. I'll see you there, right? Everyone's going?

Today's Song: Elephants, Rachel Yamagata (I went to the Hotel Cafe concert last night at the Avalon. Zzzzzzzzz.)

I'm not judging at all! I'm going, and CAN'T WAIT! It's going to be awesome. I was a part of New Kids mania, and had all their albums and way too much merchandise. Seriously, can't wait.

PS: Are you using Okay Seriously as one of your reputable sources?

Yes, OkaySeriously is one of the sources. You read her review, right? I sent a link to her post to B-lo and Stella, and they said that if were to have 1/10 the fun she had at the concert, we'll have a great time.

Excuuuuse! I thought Hotel Cafe was great. I'm sure it won't hold a candle to the NKOTB Mania, but come on, those girls were really talented. And who knew the new brand of Lilith Fair artists shave and are sponsored by Anthropologie?

Good call on the flask. FYI: In junior high, some kid in our class drew a picture of the new kids hanging from nooses all in a row. He titled it "Hangin' Tough." Good times.

Hey Justin,

Totally saw them in Kansas City. And. It. Was. Awesome.

I have a new found respect for that band. They just looked like they were having so much fun up there. And they played for over 2 hours.

Fav moment: the beginning...when they sang that "I'll be boyfriend" song and came out dancing. They had me at "single".
